JMU Riot Dispersed

HARRISONBURG, VIRGINIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The large number of people who got together at the annual on campus party near the James Madison University (JMU) campus had to be dispersed by police authorities on Saturday afternoon. The police authorities had to disperse that crowd from what transpired into a riot like situation with the help of tear gas and pepper spray with the aim of bringing the crowd into control near JMU.

What commenced as an open air party gradually took a drastic turn when more than expected number of individuals turned up for the party. Authorities have revealed that normally the annual party near JMU campus is attended by a maximum of one thousand or two thousand college goers but this time around the situation was a bit different as many as eight thousand college goers amalgamated for the event. One of the prime reasons which led to a riot like scenario near JMU campus is being attributed to the fact that this year, the annual part was advertised in the social networking site Facebook, which might have played a significant role in generating widespread attention about the yearly party.

Lt. Kurt Boshart, an officer of the Harrisonburg Police Department revealed details about the incident and added that the riot like situation broke out adjoining to the JMU campus as fights broke out supposedly between people in the crowd. However, the situation took a drastic turn when the college goers started pelting beer bottles at the police officers as they were attempting to pacify the rowdy crowd which resulted in authorities resorting to pepper spray and tear gas.
