3 shootings as large groups create mayhem in NYC

NEW YORK — New York City police have made several dozen arrests during overnight mayhem in midtown Manhattan that included three shootings.

Witnesses said groups of youths ran amok. Police said early Monday the crimes occurred around a mile-long stretch of midtown, from Herald Square to Times Square to near Rockefeller Center.

Police say the mayhem started after the annual auto show.

The charges included disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and weapon possession.

A man was shot in the ankle around midnight near Seventh Avenue and 41st Street. A woman was shot with a BB gun near Seventh Avenue and 51st Street. About two hours later, two women were hit — one in the elbow and another in the thigh — near Seventh Avenue and 34th Street.
