7 suspects in FBI Midwest raids to appear in court

ADRIAN, Mich. — Seven suspects in the FBI’s weekend raids in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio are scheduled to appear in court.

Spokeswoman Gina Balaya (Buh-LIE’-uh) of the U.S. attorney’s office in Detroit tells The Associated Press the suspects have a 10 a.m. hearing Monday before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Donald A. Scheer. She had no further information on the seven or what charges they faced.

Federal warrants are sealed, but a federal law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity said some of those arrested face gun charges and officials are pursuing other suspects.

It’s not clear what prompted the raids.

A militia leader in Michigan says the target of at least one raid was a Christian militia group called Hutaree.
