DA: Pa. woman falsely claimed baby’s ashes stolen

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — A western Pennsylvania woman has been charged with falsely reporting that a burglar stole her dead baby’s cremated remains.

The district attorney says the ashes were actually from a cremated cat.

Thirty-four-year-old Carey Toth, of Johnstown, faces a preliminary hearing April 22 on charges of making false reports to law enforcement and unsworn falsification for statements she made to police. The burglary was April 17.

Toth doesn’t have a listed phone and her attorney didn’t immediately return a call Friday.

The Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown reported last week that the Cambria County coroner had no death records for Toth’s son.
