First court hearing for professor in Ala. shooting

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A former professor is scheduled for her first court appearance on charges of fatally shooting three colleagues and wounding three more at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Amy Bishop is set to appear Tuesday in Huntsville before District Judge Ruth Ann Hall.

The judge issued a gag order last week for the prosecution and defense as well as law enforcement personnel, barring them from talking to the media.

Hall says the order will ensure a fair trial for the Harvard-educated biologist.

Bishop is charged with capital murder in the deaths of three professors gunned down during a biology faculty meeting on Feb. 12.

Bishop’s attorney, Roy Miller, has said he will argue that Bishop is insane.
