Ohio teen gets 7 years in jail guard wrestle death
CLEVELAND — An Ohio teenager who killed a juvenile detention center guard by kneeing him in the chest while wrestling has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Eighteen-year-old Hubert Morgan pleaded guilty in January to voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced Monday in Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Common Pleas Court.
Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility guard William Hesson (HEH’-suhn) died last April of a cardiac rhythm disturbance caused by a body blow. A coroner ruled the 39-year-old’s death a homicide.
A state report citing witnesses said Hesson and Morgan were engaged in inappropriate contact or horseplay in a laundry room. Morgan was 17 at the time. The report said Hesson had Morgan in a headlock when Morgan kneed him in the chest.
Morgan is from Wakeman, a rural community just south of Lake Erie and 45 miles west of Cleveland.
