NY mother, son plead not guilty to fatal abuse
BUFFALO, N.Y. — A New York mother and son pleaded not guilty at their arraignments in the death of the woman’s 23-year-old mentally disabled daughter.
Eva Cummings appeared in Erie County Court Monday on a charge of second-degree murder. Cummings is accused of suffocating Laura Cummings in their North Collins home in January following years of abuse.
She and her son, 31-year-old Luke Wright, also face charges of predatory sexual assault, unlawful imprisonment as a hate crime and endangering a disabled person’s welfare. Wright is also charged with rape. Both are in jail without bail.
Investigators say Laura Cummings was tied to a chair, often with a hood over her head, sodomized with a broomstick, beaten and raped.
