Arrest made in deadly NYC jewelry store heist
NEW YORK — Authorities have arrested a 46-year-old man who they say ended up with more than $1 million worth of gems stolen in a deadly New York City jewelry store heist.
Forty-six-year-old Edmond Alma didn’t enter a plea at his arraignment Friday on stolen property charges. Police say he hasn’t been ruled out as the gunman in a brazen midday holdup last month at R.S. Durant on posh Madison Avenue.
But his lawyer says Alma didn’t kill 71-year-old clerk Henry Menaham or participate in the robbery at the boutique.
Prosecutors got a judge’s permission to put Alma in a lineup related to the robbery and shooting. Police say he hasn’t been eliminated as a suspect in those crimes.
