Man accused of killing Kan. student testifies

EL DORADO, Kan. — A man accused of killing a Kansas college student who led a secret life as an Internet porn model testified he went on the run because he figured authorities would blame him.

Israel Mireles told jurors Friday that he found Emily Sander’s body in his hotel room, got scared and then fled.

The 26-year-old man is charged with capital murder, rape and aggravated sodomy in the November 2007 killing. The disappearance of the 18-year-old Butler Community College made national headlines after it was revealed she was also known as the Internet model Zoey Zane.

His public defender said in opening statements that another man came into Mireles’ motel room and became violent in a drug deal that went sour.
