Man arrested in hostage situation at Nebraska bank
KEARNEY, Neb. — Authorities say a 22-year-old man is being held after allegedly holding hostages at gunpoint in a south-central Nebraska bank.
No shots or injuries were reported during the Wednesday incident at the Wells Fargo Bank branch in Kearney. Police say they’ve recovered a shotgun and machete from the scene.
Kearney Police issued a statement identifying the suspect as Jonathon Buckley of Minden.
The statement says Buckley is being held in the Kearney jail and is expected to be formally charged at a Thursday arraignment.
Police say Buckley took hostages just before 11 a.m. but started releasing people about 45 minutes later. He surrendered about 1:30 p.m.
Local television station NTV says Buckley is a former employee who was fired a week ago.
