Settlement reached in arrest over twin’s death

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The lawyers for an Ohio man cleared of killing his identical twin brother says a settlement has been reached with the city of Columbus over an error that led to the surviving twin’s arrest and trial.

Attorneys for 20-year-old Derris Lewis say a mediator’s recommendation for a settlement has been accepted by both sides. They did not reveal the amount of the settlement.

Dennis Lewis was killed during a January 2008 robbery at their mother’s home.

Prosecutors charged Derris Lewis with aggravated murder, but the case ended in mistrial. They later dropped the charge after a test failed to find Derris Lewis’ blood on a palm print that had been a main piece of evidence.

Columbus police blamed miscommunication on the agency’s error.
