Police: California guard fabricated attack story
CHESTER, Calif. — A state prison guard has been arrested for allegedly filing two false crime reports, including an attack police had called “a vicious beating.”
Plumas County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Peay says Todd Posch called 911 on Wednesday to report he was the victim of a hit-and-run crash in front of his Greenville home.
But an investigation found the injuries suffered by Posch, a sergeant at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, were self-inflicted.
That prompted police to look into a knife attack Posch reported last March, in which he said he was jumped by one to three people at a rest stop along Highway 147. Because Posch said he was in uniform, police had called it an attempted homicide on a peace officer.
Peay says that story also was fabricated.
