Calif. woman gets 3 years for huge mortgage fraud

LOS ANGELES — A former Beverly Hills real estate appraiser has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for her role in a massive mortgage fraud.

A federal judge in Los Angeles sentenced Lila Rizk on Friday and ordered her to pay part of $46 million in restitution to Bank of America Corp. and other lenders.

Prosecutors say the 42-year-old woman was part of a ring that obtained dozens of inflated mortgage loans for homes in wealthy Southern California neighborhoods, including Beverly Hills and La Jolla.

Rizk was convicted last year of conspiracy, bank fraud and loan fraud. Eight other real estate professionals have pleaded guilty to federal charges. Their sentences ranged from probation to 14 years in prison.

It was not immediately clear how much restitution she was ordered to pay.
