2 off-duty LA cops held in alleged pistol-whipping
WHITTIER, Calif. — Two off-duty Los Angeles police officers have been arrested for allegedly pistol-whipping a man during a fight.
Police in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier booked the officers on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Their names weren’t immediately released.
Whittier Police Lt. Carlos Solorza says the officers had been drinking when they got into a fight outside a Panera Bread bakery and cafe on Tuesday night.
Solorza says an officer began arguing with his girlfriend and thought a man standing nearby was paying too much attention to the squabble, so he hit him in the face.
Solorza says a fight ensued during which the 31-year-old man was chased, tackled by both officers and pistol-whipped. He was treated at a hospital.
