US high court won’t hear NJ man’s murder case

NEWARK, N.J. — A New Jersey man who was released from prison last year after serving more than 20 years for a double murder will remain free.

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal by Ocean County prosecutors to reinstate Paul Kamienski’s murder convictions.

Kamienski was convicted in 1988 of the murders of a husband and wife five years earlier during a drug deal. Prosecutors claimed Kamienski helped two friends dump the bodies in Barnegat Bay.

Kamienski’s convictions and double life sentence were thrown out last year when a federal appeals court ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to convict him at the original trial.

He was freed from South Woods State Prison in June and has since moved to Florida.
