Jury selection ongoing in abortion slaying trial
WICHITA, Kan. — Jury selection is set to enter its first full day at the Kansas trial of the man who admitted killing one of the nation’s few late-term abortion providers.
Jurors will hear the case of 51-year-old Scott Roeder. The Missouri man is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of Dr. George Tiller inside a Wichita church last May.
The process of choosing jurors started in secret Wednesday after Sedgwick County Judge Warren Wilbert ruled that representatives of four media outlets, including The Associated Press, could sit in the courtroom only after the pool was narrowed to 42.
The four outlets had appealed his earlier decision to close jury selection entirely.
The closed selection process is set to continue at 9 a.m. Thursday.
