Demjanjuk trial adjourned until next week

MUNICH — John Demjanjuk’s trial on charges that he was an accessory to murder at a Nazi death camp has been adjourned after the defendant complained of pain.

Presiding Judge Ralph Alt said Thursday that prison doctors told him the 89-year-old Demjanjuk had complained of pains in the chest area and of a headache.

Alt said that although doctors didn’t see it as an emergency, he decided against ordering Demjanjuk brought to court in deference to his age.

Alt adjourned the trial until the next scheduled session next Tuesday.

Demjanjuk is charged with 27,900 counts of accessory to murder for his alleged activities as a guard at the Sobibor camp in occupied Poland. He denies the accusations.
