Man on FBI’s most wanted list returned to LA

LOS ANGELES — A man who was on the FBI’s list of the top ten most wanted fugitives has been extradited to Los Angeles to face trial for allegedly shooting at two sheriff’s deputies in Whittier, Calif., in 2000.

FBI officials returned Emigidio Preciado to Los Angeles on Tuesday.

FBI agents and Mexican federal officers took him into custody in July in a small town in Nayarit, Mexico.

Preciado, a known gang member, is accused of shooting at two deputies with an automatic weapon from a car. One deputy was hit in the head and seriously wounded. The other escaped unhurt.

The other four men in the car were apprehended, but Preciado fled to Mexico and lived under an assumed name for years.

He is scheduled to appear in Whittier Superior Court on Thursday.
