Judges deny bail for kosher slaughterhouse boss
ST. LOUIS — A panel of three judges from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has denied a motion from a former Iowa kosher slaughterhouse manager to be released on bail while he awaits sentencing.
The St. Louis-based panel rejected the motion from former Agriprocessors, Inc., manager Sholom Rubashkin. He was convicted on 86 counts of financial fraud in November.
A sentencing date for Rubashkin has not been set. Agriprocessors was the site of a massive immigration raid in May 2008 at a plant in Postville, Iowa.
The panel gave no explanation of its ruling in the judgment issued Friday.
Rubashkin attorney Guy Cook says he plans to appeal the decision to the entire 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
