Official: Guinea junta chief’s life not in danger
CONAKRY, Guinea — Guinea’s No. 2 leader says the life of the nation’s wounded junta chief is not in danger following an assassination attempt last month.
Gen. Sekouba Konate says he spoke to Capt. Moussa “Dadis” Camara during a weeklong trip to Rabat, Morocco, where he has been recovering from a head wound since he was shot by an aide in an attempted assassination Dec. 3.
Camara’s health has been shrouded in secrecy since then, and opposition and union leaders have demanded to know details on his condition.
Konate said in a speech broadcast on state media Wednesday night that Camara’s “life is not in danger. But it will take time and patience for him to recover completely.”
