APNewsBreak: Slain Ohio guard wrestled with teen
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio officials say a juvenile prison guard was inappropriately involved in horseplay with a teen inmate when he died.
A report by the Ohio Department of Youth Services released Tuesday says that 39-year-old William Hesson had gone to a laundry room to wrestle with the teen before Hesson’s death on April 29. The report says Hesson had been involved in horseplay with the teen, Hubert Morgan, throughout Hesson’s shift that day.
Hesson died of a cardiac rhythm disturbance caused by a blow to the abdomen. His death was ruled a homicide.
Morgan pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in Hesson’s death. The 18-year-old could be sentenced to anywhere from probation to 10 years in prison.
