Assault suspect gets DUI taking victim to hospital
CLINTON, Tenn. — Police have charged a Tennessee woman with shooting her husband and with driving drunk when she tried to get him to a hospital but had a wreck instead.
Authorities say 33-year-old Erica Hopper of Speedwell remained Monday in the Anderson County Jail and Charles James Hopper II was in stable condition at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Anderson County Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said Erica Hopper wrecked the car Sunday morning. Deputies didn’t realize passenger Charles Hopper had a gunshot wound until he reached a hospital in Oak Ridge. He was then airlifted to Knoxville.
Erica Hopper is charged with DUI, aggravated assault and other charges with bond set at $6,000. A jail spokesman said he did not know if she had an attorney.
