Man arrested in shooting death of Iowa City woman

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Police in Iowa say a man has been arrested in the shooting death of a woman whose body was found in her apartment.

Iowa City police say 26-year-old Alajuwon Johnson has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, carrying weapons and possession of controlled substances. He was in Johnson County jail Friday and officials say he does not yet have an attorney.

The body of 20-year-old Kylie Perkins was found in her apartment Wednesday night. Johnson was arrested late Thursday.

Police say Johnson told detectives he went to Perkins’ apartment and they both mishandled a handgun he was carrying. Perkins was shot and later died.
