Arrest made in death of Iowa City woman
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Police say a man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a woman whose body was found in an Iowa City apartment.
Police say 26-year-old Alajuwon Johnson has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, carrying weapons and possession of controlled substances.
The body of 20-year-old Kylie Perkins was found in her apartment Wednesday night. Johnson was arrested late Thursday.
Police say Johnson told detectives he went to Perkins’ apartment and they both mishandled a handgun he was carrying. The gun fired, striking Perkins in the upper torso.
Police say Johnson didn’t call for help because of outstanding warrants against him and contacted a friend to call for help instead.
That person gave wrong information, delaying the arrival of help.
Police say Johnson had cocaine and a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun when he was arrested.
