BEIRUT - Hundreds of Lebanese and Palestinians held a demonstration here in support of Cuba and demanded the release of five Cubans in US jails, having been convicted of terrorist activities in that country.

According to a Cuban embassy official, the protesters demanded the release of Fernando Gonzlez, Ren Gonzlez, Gerardo Hernndez, Ramn Labaino and Antonio Guerrero imprisoned for over 11 years in the US, Prensa Latina reported.

The five Cubans have been serving jail terms ranging from 15 years to double life imprisonments for having links with terrorists groups operating in the US.

The demonstrations of support to Cuba and the demand to cease US blockade were echoed at the Unesco headquarters here in response to the call of the Lebanese Pro Liberation Committee of the five Cubans to express solidarity with the Cuban government.

Lebanese political leaders, representatives of religious organisations and some Cubans living here attended the function.
