Woman burned in acid hoax to plead not guilty
VANCOUVER, Wash. — A Washington state woman who falsely claimed a stranger threw acid in her face is due in court, and her defense attorney says the woman will plead not guilty to theft charges.
Andrew Wheeler, an attorney for 28-year-old Bethany Storro of Vancouver, says he expects Storro will be given supervised release after her scheduled appearance Wednesday before Clark County Superior Court Judge John Nichols.
He says in a statement on his law firm’s website that Storro is not a flight risk.
Storro is accused of accepting donations after claiming a woman had splashed her with acid on Aug. 30. Police say she later admitted putting drain cleaner on her face.
Prosecutors say Storro spent about $1,500 of the nearly $28,000 donated to her.
