Abducted teller in Fla. bank heist cleared by FBI

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The FBI says a bank teller who was forced to rob a Florida bank with what he thought was a bomb strapped to his chest has been cleared and released from custody.

The FBI said Friday night that Diego Uscamayta had been let go.

Police say three men broke into Uscamayta’s home and held him and his father hostage for several hours until a Bank of America branch near the University of Miami was about to open. As his father was being held hostage, two of the suspects strapped a suspected bomb to Uscamayta’s chest and told him they would remotely set it off if he didn’t rob the bank.

The suspects then made off with an undetermined amount of money. The device was safely removed from Uscamayta.
