CHANDIGARH, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The menace of the withdrawal of money from the accounts of several people in Chandigarh is on the rise and this has put the cops on the tenterhooks. The police is of the opinion that the rogues have devised some methods to find out the password of the victims and clone their ATM cards. The victims are mostly users of SBI ATMs. The Chandigarh police Cyber Crime Investigation Cell has started an investigation to trace the culprits responsible for these incidents. The victims are getting shocked when they are receiving messages from the bank branches about cash withdrawals even when the ATM card is with them.

The Chandigarh Police has said that the employees working in Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory have approached the cops with ATM Theft complains. So far 15 people have approached the cops with identical grievances. It is unclear why the gang of ATM thieves is targeting the SBI ATMs. SK Juneja from the TBRL Employees’ Association said that the staff who have lost their salary accounts with SBI should be compensated. Otherwise they would approach the consumer court. In some instances of ATM theft INR 40000 and greater was withdrawn from the accounts of the victims.

The Chandigarh Police is trying to find out if some insider is involved in these incidents of theft. The cops are trying to get more information on this crime trend from the bank. In recent times the instances of theft from ATMs have gone up and the users have become worried. The bank has also began warning the customers about the precautions that are needed to be adopted.
