Stabbings suspect expected back in Mich. next week
FLINT, Mich. — A county prosecutor says a man suspected in stabbings across three states, five of them fatal, is expected to be returned to Michigan next week to face charges in at least one assault.
Elias Abuelazam (A’-boo-LAH’-zuhm) has been held in an Atlanta jail since his Aug. 11 arrest. He waived extradition Aug. 13. Officials have 15 days from then to bring him to Michigan.
Authorities are using most of that time to arrange security for Abuelazam and the officers who will escort him back. They’re also shoring up charges in one attack and preparing others.
The 33-year-old is currently charged with assault with intent to commit murder in the July 27 stabbing of a 26-year-old Flint, Mich. man.
Phone and e-mail messages were left Friday for Abuelazam’s attorney, Brian Morley of Lansing, Mich.
