Shaquan Duley Arrested For Toddler Deaths

ORANGEBURG (GaeaTimes.com)- 29-year-old Shaquan Duley has been arrested by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s department and charged for leaving the scene of an accident that led to the death of her two sons aged 18 months and two years. The bodies of the two toddlers, both boys, were recovered on Monday from a car submerged in North Edisto River. Although the Orangeburg County, S.C., Sheriff Larry Williams had earlier denied giving any further information on the matter, an Orangeburg County Sheriff spokeswoman said later that a news conference will be addressed by the sheriff on Tuesday morning.

The bodies of the two children named Ja’van T. Duley (18 months) and Devean C. Duley (2-years-old) were recovered on Monday morning from a car after the State Highway patrol was notified about an apparent accident at around 6:15 a.m. It was informed that a woman needed help to get her children out of a car that was sinking in the middle of the river. The authorities sent divers to the scene and the car was pulled out of water within 45 minutes. The two toddlers however were dead by then, still strapped to their child seats. The Orangeburg County, S.C., Sheriff Larry Williams said that Shaquan Duley was being held as the primary investigation has not found enough signs to indicate that the car had skidded off the road and fallen into the river as the mother had mentioned.

Larry Williams also added that Shaquan Duley had reportedly walked nearly a mile from the site of the accident before stopping a passing motorist to inform the police of the mishap. Shaquan Duley was reportedly not carrying a cell phone of her own. He also added that the lady showed “some emotion” but was not “overly distraught” to find her two children dead and some of her statements are not “believable”.
