SUFFOLK (GaeaTimes.com)- Philip Markoff, 24, who is better known as “Craigslist killer” for his alleged murder of a masseuse whom he met through Craigslist last year, has ended up taking his own life. The Suffolk County district attorney’s office confirmed the news of the death of the “Craigslist killer” in an e-mailed statement to media sources. The authorities said that Philip Markoff took his life on Sunday in the Nashua Street Jail of Boston. The suspected murderer was awaiting trial at the court.
That Philip Markoff had apparently committed suicide was mentioned to media sources by the chief of external affairs at the Suffolk County’s Sheriff’s Department, Steve Tompkins. A statement by the department held that Philip Markoff was alone in his cell and found unresponsive on Sunday morning. He was pronounced dead at about 10:15 a.m. by the concerned medical authorities. The department held that “all evidence collected thus far indicates that he [Philip Markoff] took his own life”. However, it maintained that a comprehensive investigation into the matter will be carried out to determine the circumstances and the facts that led to the death of “Craigslist killer“.
Philip Markoff, a former Boston University medical student was arrested by the police last year in connection with the fatal shooting of Julissa Brisman and an armed robbery of a Las Vegas woman. He was also indicted by the Rhode Island prosecutors for attacking a stripper in April 2009 when the other two incidents occurred. However, Philip Markoff (Craigslist killer) had pleaded not guilty of all the allegations. The death of Philip Markoff had left his lawyer John Salsberg shocked and saddened. The accused was expected to face the court in March in connection to the Massachusetts cases.
