4 police officers charged over UK attack
LONDON — British prosecutors say four police officers will face criminal charges over an alleged attack on a terrorism suspect.
The Crown Prosecution Service said Thursday the men are accused of assaulting Babar Ahmad when he was arrested in 2003.
Ahmad, a 36-year-old computer specialist, is accused by the United States of running websites used to raise money for terrorists, and of supplying them with gas masks and night vision goggles.
The European Court of Human Rights has halted his extradition to the U.S. until it makes a ruling next year on his case.
The police officers will appear at a London court on Sept. 22 on a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm
Last year, London police paid out 60,000 pounds (US$95,000) in damages over the case.
