Watch this! British thieves make timely getaway

LONDON — British police say smash-and-grab raiders hurled luxury watches at chasing officers as they attempted to flee from the scene of a robbery.

Scotland Yard says the gang threw expensive wristwatches to deter police after they snatched an estimated 500,000 pounds (US$795,000) of goods from a London jewelers in the early hours of Wednesday.

The gang threatened a security guard and smashed into a store with sledgehammers at the Bentall Center in the southern London district of Kingston.

Two suspects were eventually arrested nearby, and two more detained later in the nearby Wimbledon suburb.

All four are being questioned at a London police station.
