Reports: Mexican drug lord targeted in raid
MEXICO CITY — Several Mexican news organizations are reporting that a top drug cartel leader has been either been killed or arrested.
The reports named Ignacio “Nacho” Coronel as the suspected trafficker targeted in a raid by soldiers near the western city of Guadalajara. Coronel is considered to be a close associate of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the country’s most-wanted drug lord.
The Defense Department, the Attorney General’s Office and The Public Safety Department refused to confirm the reports. But the Defense Department announced it would hold a news conference Thursday to make an announcement, apparently to report the results of the raid.
