Man accused in Arizona police chase found guilty

PHOENIX — A 30-year-old man accused of leading Arizona police on a 50-mile chase after a officer was fatally shot during a traffic stop has been found guilty.

Daimen Irizarry was convicted Thursday of all the charges against him, including drive-by shooting, aggravated assault and unlawful flight from law enforcement.

A jury will now decide if aggravating factors exist and if the state has met its burden of proof.

Authorities say Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler was shot in the face on Jan. 28 by Christopher Redondo, a passenger in Irizarry’s truck. The vehicle was pulled over for having an obstructed license plate.

Police say Redondo and Irizarry then led officers on a chase through the Phoenix metropolitan area and that Redondo fired on officers and hurled tools from the pickup’s bed.
