Texas mom accused of strangling kids, killing son
IRVING, Texas — Police say a Dallas-area mother suspected of strangling her two children, including her 5-year-old-son who died, will be charged with capital murder.
Irving police spokesman David Tull says 30-year-old Saiqa Akhter is in jail Tuesday, a day after she called 911 and said she had done “something terrible” to her children. Tull says she was expected to be arraigned Wednesday.
Police officers say they arrived at the family’s Irving apartment to find the boy, Zain, and his 2-year-old sister, Faryaal, in distress.
Zain Akhter was pronounced dead at a hospital. The mother’s uncle, Wasimul Haque, says Faryaal is on life support and is not expected to live.
Haque also told The Dallas morning News that the family is trying to get Akhter an attorney.
