Chandra Levy suspect to leave DC jail briefly
WASHINGTON — The man charged with killing federal intern Chandra Levy is scheduled to leave the D.C. jail briefly.
A judge granted a temporary release order for Ingmar Guandique (gwan-DEE’-kay) to be under a homicide detective’s supervision Wednesday for authorities to obtain samples of his handwriting. The order says Guandique will be released at 8:30 a.m. and must be returned by 5 p.m.
Prosecutors say they have notes or letters they believe were written by Guandique. They say the writings contain threats to witnesses and admissions about Levy’s murder. Guandique pleaded not guilty in December to additional charges that he threatened a witness in the case.
Levy disappeared in 2001 and her body was found a year later in D.C.’s Rock Creek Park.
