LA man sentenced for Lakers victory disturbance

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles Lakers fan accused of inciting a riot during last month’s celebration of the team’s basketball championship has been sentenced to nine months behind bars.

Twenty-two-year-old Steve Quintanilla (Kihn-tah-NEE’-yuh) pleaded no contest Wednesday. He got 90 days in jail and six months in state prison for violating probation from a previous grand theft conviction.

He also must stay away from Staples Center — the Lakers’ home court — during a year’s probation.

Prosecutors say Quintanilla burned a Boston Celtics jersey and incited rioting on June 17 outside Staples after the Lakers’ NBA victory.

Forty-five people were arrested for setting fires, trashing cars, throwing things and smashing windows.

City attorney’s spokesman Frank Mateljan (Mah-TEHL’-jehn) says 10 have been charged with crimes.
