Conn. reporter pleads not guilty on larceny charge
MILFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut television traffic reporter has pleaded not guilty to shoplifting allegations and apologized for disappointing any of her viewers.
Desiree Fontaine, a reporter for WTNH-TV in New Haven, entered a not guilty plea to a misdemeanor larceny charge Tuesday in Milford Superior Court.
She is charged with stealing $105 in jewelry, cologne and clothing from a Sears store in Milford on June 19. A police report says Fontaine told an officer she was a freelance reporter and doing “something on the side” when she was arrested.
Fontaine said in court she is sorry to anyone she “may have disappointed and let down.”
WTNH says the 33-year-old Fontaine is on personal leave from her job. She returns to court July 27.
