Indian Navy Detains Karachi Vessel

DIAMOND HARBOUR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Indian Navy intercepted a ship off the coast of Kolkata at Diamond Harbour. Reportedly, Indian Navy has found the ship carrying explosives and was headed towards Karachi from Bangladesh port.

The security agencies were informed of the situation right away and they held the crew and the ship under their custody. The security officials told the media that both Indian Navy and the Coast Guard has seized the vessel which is now anchored at Kalicharanpara. The officers of Indian Navy carried out an investigation and finally figured out that the ship was coming from Chittagong and had no clearance papers for carrying the explosives. Indian Navy officials ran a check against the name of the vessel “Agean Glory” and found that it was registered in St. Vincent back in Liberia. The Indian Navy officials informed the media that when the vessel was asked for the papers they failed to provide any document of declaration for carrying explosives on board.

Following that, the Indian Navy along with The Coast Guard and the customs went abroad the ship where they interrogated the crew. They also disembarked the captain of the ship and held him in custody. Indian navy officials further said that besides carrying regular explosives, the vessel was also loaded with heavy artillery like anti-aircraft guns and rocket launchers. In total, there were five tonnes of explosives that was loaded in two different containers. The Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh have called the incident to be “alarming” and said that it is still a matter of surprise why a Pakistani-bound vessel was traveling through the Indian coastline.
