Suicide bombers kill 5 in northern Iraq
BAGHDAD — Officials say suicide bombers have killed four Iraqi policeman and a soldier and injured nine others in separate attacks in the northern city of Mosul.
A Mosul police official said the noontime attacks Thursday targeted a police checkpoint and an Iraqi army camp.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
The casualties were confirmed by Mosul morgue official Saad Abdul-Moneim.
Mosul is one of al-Qaida’s last stronghold in Iraq. The city is located about 225 miles (360 kilometers) northwest of Baghdad.
Iraq’s security forces are frequently targeted as the American military prepares to end its combat mission there this summer.
