Angry villagers have lynched five robbers in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, police said today.

Police said the villagers found some masked men aimlessly loitering near Chakpahad village in Bihar’s Samastipur district this morning and inquired about their whereabouts.

But they began fleeing which made the villagers more suspicious.

“Angry villagers then gave them a hot chase, caught hold of them and beat them up mercilessly. All died on the spot”, a police officer from Samastipur district said.

He said they have taken the bodies under possession and they are being sent for postmortem.
