Mexican port captain jailed for alleged drug ties
MEXICO CITY — The captain of a major Mexican port has been detained for alleged ties to drug gangs.
The Mexican Navy says in a statement that marines arrested Manzanillo port Captain Jorge Arturo Castaneda.
The statement released Thursday did not specify what ties Castaneda allegedly had to drug traffickers. Security forces have seized large quantities of precursor chemicals for methamphetamine in recent months in Manzanillo, a port on Mexico’s southern Pacific coast.
Castaneda was arrested Wednesday.
The Navy said there were no further comment.
