Man charged in shooting at Ala. graduation party

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An Alabama man is charged with murder in a shooting at a high school graduation party that left one person dead and eight wounded.

Twenty-year-old Akeem Antwan Prewitt was also charged Monday with eight counts of attempted murder in the shooting late Saturday night. He is being held on bond.

Tuscaloosa Police say Prewitt went to the clubhouse of an apartment complex with a group of friends. When he began dancing with a girl, it sparked an argument involving gang affiliations.

Police Capt. Loyd Baker told The Tuscaloosa News that Prewitt opened fire and kept shooting even when the lights got turned off in the chaotic scene.

A 17-year-old boy died after being shot multiple times. The most seriously wounded victim, a 16-year-old girl, was in stable condition Monday morning.
