Judge: Casey Anthony trial could last 4-7 weeks
ORLANDO, Fla. — A judge says jurors eventually chosen to hear the case of Casey Anthony, the Florida mother charged with killing her toddler, might be sequestered for a trial lasting several weeks.
Circuit Judge Belvin Perry held his first pretrial hearing Friday since taking the case, offering details of what future jurors could expect. Another judge removed himself from the case recently at the request of Anthony’s attorneys.
Caylee Anthony, 2, disappeared in June 2008 and her remains were found six months later. Casey Anthony has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, saying a baby sitter kidnapped her daughter.
A trial scheduled for May 2011 is expected to last four to six weeks. Another week will be needed for the sentencing phase if there’s a conviction.
