Survivor of NJ schoolyard murders describes attack
NEWARK, N.J. — A New Jersey jury is hearing graphic descriptions of the slayings of three friends from a young woman who survived the attack.
Thursday’s testimony is the first time the woman has spoken publicly about what happened in a Newark schoolyard in 2007.
She is testifying at the trial of the first of six defendants charged with the triple murder, Rodolfo Godinez (goh-DEE’-nez).
In testimony that occasionally produced gasps from courtroom spectators, the woman described how the four friends were set upon by a group of six men. She described being slashed with a machete, then hearing gunshots before she was shot.
The woman is not being identified by The Associated Press because of sexual assault charges against two other defendants.
