Ex-Detroit Schools officials, vendors indicted
DETROIT — Federal authorities have indicted two former risk management officers and two vendors for Detroit’s public schools on bribery, fraud, extortion and money-laundering charges, accusing them of stealing more than $3 million of district funds.
The U.S. Attorney’s office in Detroit says Stephen Hill, Christina Polk-Osumah, Sherry Washington and Gwendolyn Washington are named in the eight-count indictment Wednesday.
Hill once served as executive director of risk management for the cash-strapped school district. Polk-Osumah was the office’s finance manager. They are accused of converting more than $3 million of school funds to themselves, relatives and acquaintances between 2005 and 2006.
