Douglas’ son to be sentenced for drug conviction
NEW YORK — A federal judge must decide whether Michael Douglas’ son should be sentenced to a minimum of at least 10 years in prison for a drug conviction. Cameron Douglas’ family and friends are asking the judge for leniency.
Cameron Douglas is to be sentenced Tuesday afternoon in Manhattan. The troubled 31-year-old son of the Academy Award-winning actor had pleaded guilty this year to drug charges.
Michael Douglas entered the courthouse an hour and a half before the scheduled sentencing.
The elder Douglas has written a letter to Judge Richard Berman asking him to show compassion for his son, who admitted dealing large amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.
Michael Douglas cites Cameron’s childhood in a “bad marriage” and “the pressure of finding your own identity with a famous father.”
