Maoists have killed at least 100 police informers during the last four-and-a-half years in Bihar, according to a police report.
Police said the most of the killings have been reported from east Champaran, Sheohar, Jamui, Munger, Rohtas, Gaya and Aurangabad ~ the districts where Maoists are said to be running their “parallel government”.
“The frequent killings of people on the suspicion of being police informers are a matter of grave concern for us. Now, no body is willing to provide information (about the movements of Maoists) to us”, a senior police officer in Patna said today.
A state government report says the “Red Zone” in Bihar has spread over the last few years under the present National Democratic Alliance headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar.
As per the report, the number of Maoist-infested districts in Bihar has now gone up to 33 against 17 reported earlier. Bihar has a total of 38 districts.
Of the total 33 districts identified as highly volatile from naxal point of view, 20 figure in “A” category, indicating how Maoists have fast spread their base in Bihar.
