Prosecutors charge 1 in fatal Okla. mall shooting
MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Prosecutors have charged a teenager with first-degree murder for a shooting at an Oklahoma shopping mall that left a 17-year-old dead and five others wounded.
Sixteen-year-old Michael Mayberry also was charged Wednesday with five counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Muskogee County Special Judge Robin Adair ordered Mayberry held without bond and appointed a capital public defender to his case. Calls to the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System weren’t immediately returned late Wednesday.
Mayberry was one of three people arrested Monday in the shooting at the Arrowhead Mall in Muskogee on Saturday that killed 17-year-old Jerrod Reed.
Police Cpl. Pedro Zardeneta says authorities believe the shooting was gang related.
